Store Feature: Spinout Tyler
Spinout's story is an inspiring one of reinvention and a commitment to the community. Spinout Tyler began in 1986 as a paint-your-own t-shirt store. Over the years, Spinout seamlessly evolved alongside the needs of their community. They added children's clothing, women's clothing and most recently, gifts. Since those early days, the family business has steadily grown to become the go-to clothing and accessories boutique in East Texas. The owner, Diane, and her daughters, Donna and Sara, are committed to carrying the latest and greatest, distilling their favorite finds from New York and Los Angeles down into one O-mazing store that has a little something for everyone.
What is the story of Spinout?
Spinout began in 1986 as a paint your own t-shirt store. Customers would pick out the color and size of their t-shirt, then personalize it on a board using squirt bottles full of paint. We hosted birthday parties, decorated local team shirts, and so much more. But all good things come to an end, so it was time for a reinvention. Over the years, Spinout has been a children's clothing store, a ladies clothing store and now, we have started incorporating gift items. No matter what we're selling, our goal is to always fill a need in the community. For example, we sourced and sold jigsaw puzzles for the first time ever during the COVID shutdown.
What trends are you seeing this summer?
Comfy clothes are essential this summer! Everything is oversized - think swing dresses, and shirts with boxy shoulders and billowing sleeves. People are also ready to dress up again, and are loving statement pieces like ruffled blouses. We are currently seeing sleeves play an important part in clothing, as well as smocked detailing and tie-dye print.
How long have you been selling Oventure?
We've been selling Big O Key Rings for almost 10 years! The original leather Big O Key Rings are still the most popular, but the silicone styles are a must-have for teenagers. Gold is our #1 best-selling color in both leather and silicone.
What do you like most about Tyler?
Our beautiful roses and the friendly, welcoming people are what I like best about Tyler. It is the perfect size city - 100,000 people - and has everything anyone could ever need.
If someone is visiting Tyler, what should they do?
The Rose Garden and the zoo have put Tyler on the map - so definitely don't miss those. As for food, Stanleys BBQ is a Tyler staple, and The Grove is perfect for outdoor dining and music. Stop by Javi's, too, for their fabulous margaritas.
What's your motto?
To be successful, the first thing to do is fall in love with your work! I have gotten up everyday for 35 years excited to come to work at Spinout, excited to go to market, and excited to have the privilege to work with wonderful people, both as employees and customers.
